建筑設計盡可能利用自然采光、自然通風，降低能耗，提高空間舒適度。 a.對于大進深的空間，設置由地下一層通往屋面的通風井道，利用煙囪效應促進自然通風。通風井道一直通到建筑兩側的綠化園林，在那里采集新鮮的空氣，輸送到閱覽室內。 b.利用三條縱向交通軸，將自然光線和自然通風向大進深區域引進。 c.除了外墻開窗外，利用屋頂天光和高側窗作輔助采光和通風設計。 d.南立面設遮陽裝置，控制陽光入射角度及能量。 e.南側正中的下沉庭院為地下一層創造了直通室外的出口；改善了地下空間的采光和通風效果。

扇形平面中嵌入了放射狀交通共享空間，連通了建筑周邊的園林景觀，在這里，人們可以觀景、聊天、讀書。。。。。。。，這個空間也由此成為景觀的一部分，讓整個建筑和周邊嵌固在了一起。

山東理工大學圖書館項目由中國建筑設計研究院在2006年完成施工圖設計。         該項目位于山東理工大學校園中軸線的最南端，外形簡潔大方，內部流線清晰，功能分區合理，較好地滿足了各類使用要求。 該項目施工圖紙內容全面，采用技術先進合理，設計深度完全符合國家規定。在施工過程中，設計院與甲方、施工單位、監理單位密切配合，體現了較高的設計水平和較好的服務意識，保證了項目的按時交付。 通過四年多的使用，我們感到單體設計細致周到，功能合理，安全可靠。
